Water Market Open for Business

Could you be saving on your business water supply?

With the recent changes in the water market businesses in England may now be able to reduce costs and get a better service by switching supplier.

Under the new regulations as long as you are a non-residential customer with business premises you should now be able to choose who supplies your water and waste services.

This is the biggest change to the water market since its privatisation in 1989 and means that 1.2 million businesses, charities and public sector organisations in England can now move their water supply away from their regional monopoly provider. This should result in better rates, new bundles and offers, and hopefully improved service as suppliers compete for business for the first time in over 25 years.

Another change for larger customers is the option of "self-supply". This is where businesses can apply for their own water licence and procure services directly with wholesalers in the market. Your business could be eligible if you are using over 50 million litres of water a year.

OFWAT will continue to monitor the market to ensure protection is in place for businesses looking to switch and are also promising to set limits on rates to protect those who choose not to change their supplier.

PEPCO work with a number of utility procurement specialists who can help you review your water and energy spends. Please do contact us if you would like a free review of your existing arrangements or support with your requirements and eligibility for switching.
